Crystal Watson
Nice to meet you!
Hi! I'm Crystal. I am a stepmom to a 17- and 18-year-old, and a biomom to a 3- and 6-year-old. They are always keeping me on my feet and providing me with so much opportunity to learn and grow.
As a child, I remember having so many thoughts and feelings but I wasn't sure how to share them or who to share them with! Not knowing where to get my questions answered left me feeling unheard and unseen. After years of experience with families and kids, I have found that this remains to be the case with many of our youth today. And that's okay! As a coach, I help students, teachers and parents alike to navigate their thoughts and challenge their ways of thinking. I provide a safe space for students to feel secure in asking their questions so they no longer need to keep things to themselves.
My Story
During my years as a counselor and an educational assistant, I had many conversations about family dynamics and what was and wasn't working at home and/or at school. After years of exploring, analyzing and comparing, I noticed that all of these conversations had common themes; vulnerability, curiosity and empathy. My counseling background has pushed me to discover what else is possible. My path to coaching has allowed me to find that answer. This is why I have completed research on the benefits of coaching in the educational system and how students, teachers and parents can reap the benefits of being asked powerful questions.

As a parent, I can appreciate the difficulties associated with decision-making and only wanting the best for our kids. How can something this simple be so hard? This is why Discovering Me became the springboard from which a safe space is created to welcome the necessary vulnerability required to sustain open communication. Yes, I have seen hundreds of kids struggle to find the words to match their feelings. And that's normal because they're young and they're learning. But I have also seen just as many, (if not more) adults who struggle with the same difficulties.

When I look at the struggles my own family encountered, while growing up in a place where kids played on the streets, played b-ball at the park and rode our bikes until 8 pm, I realize the opportunity and ability to connect on an open level was missed. Yes, we had a great time with friends growing up but were my friends able to talk to their parents or teachers and reflect on what was taking place in their lives? Were they provided a space to not only speak their minds but to also challenge their beliefs and ideas? Were they able to really listen to others, and develop self-awareness? The physical and social play was a great adventure but the social and emotional self-awareness and ability to really connect with others lacked severely.
After pursuing a Graduate Degree in Youth Work and a Coaching Certification from Canada Coach Academy, I have established a coaching business to help students, teachers and parents discover what they want their own circumstances to look like. The ability to reflect, evoke awareness, stay curious and determine what else is possible, is a relieving state of mind for all. Every person has a story, and at Discovering Me, we want to hear yours. This space and structure provides a great opportunity to allow yourself to dive into learning, growth and discover more about your future self.
